Bio:
Robert Elder has been in parish ministry for over 33 years in churches in New Jersey, Texas, and Oregon. He has served as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Salem, Oregon, for over 20 years. He is a graduate of Trinity University [B.A.], Princeton Theological Seminary [M.Div.], and Drew University [D.Min.]. Over 50 of Elder’s sermons and articles have been published in periodicals including Christian Century, Pulpit Digest, Lectionary Homiletics, Preaching Great Texts, Clergy Journal, Christian Ministry, Reformed Worship, and Presbyterian Outlook. His sermon, “Not as an Exaction” appeared in a best-selling collection of stewardship sermons in 1998 from Geneva Press, titled Speaking of Stewardship.

Dr. Elder’s church was the featured congregation for an hour-long nationally broadcast CBS television Christmas Eve special, “Receive the Gift,” in 2003, in which he was the featured preacher.

Elder is the author of Restoring the Future, a 2001 collection of sermons for Lent and Easter and the soon to be released Sermons On the Gospel Readings, Series III, Cycle B published by CSS Publishing Company.
