Bio: David O. Bales was a Presbyterian pastor for 33 years. He graduated from the University of Portland in Portland, Oregon where he was the editor of the yearbook. He graduated from San Francisco Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity in 1973. He served congregations in Enumclaw, Washington; Myrtle Point, Oregon; Miles City, Montana; Klamath Falls, Oregon; and Ontario, Oregon.
He has been a freelance writer and an editor for Stephen Ministries since 1994. He has written for Lectionary Homiletics, Preaching, Preaching the Great Texts, and Interpretation. He is author of Gospel Subplots: Story Sermons of God’s Grace, To Easter and Beyond, and the forthcoming, Scenes of Glory: Subplots of God’s Long Story. He is a regular contributor to Emphasis and StoryShare.
At Miles Community College, Miles City, Montana, he taught New Testament Greek, Biblical Hebrew, Ethics, and World Religions. In the fall of 2008 he will teach New Testament Greek at College of Idaho, Caldwell, Idaho.
He and his wife, Judy, met when they worked together on the college yearbook. They live in Ontario, Oregon. They have three daughters.
